Final Exam

Write one essay. Your answer should be full, interesting, clear and precise.  It is due Thursday, December 18, at noon.  It may be placed in the instructor’s box in Winn 103, given to him personally or emailed as a MS Word attachment. 

Michael Williams proposes contextualism as a theory of knowledge.  Describe his proposal and show the following:

• how it meets (or claims to meet) the requirements of a theory of knowledge

• how it differs from foundationalism and coherentism

• how it addresses the problems posed by scepticism and relativism

• in what sense it is pragmatic

Your essay should not be a mechanical answering of these subquestions.  It should be a coherent, well organized essay that addresses these issues as a part of its overall concern to elaborate Williams’ theory.

You may, if you choose, raise problems with William’s proposal.
